When your computer makes no sound, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s simply on mute. If you’re at a loss, watch this tech tip video, which includes different options to determine the cause of this issue on Mac and PC.

No Sound on Windows
Step 1: Click the speaker icon in the bottom-right corner
Step 2: If there is an “X” next to the icon, right-click to view the sound output
Step 3: Make sure volume is set above 0
Step 1: Right-click the speaker icon and select Open Volume mixer
Step 2: Make sure none of the options are set to 0
Step 1: Right-click the speaker icon and click Sounds
Step 2: Click the Playback tab
Step 3: Locate your sound output and make sure it has a green checkmark
Step 4: Right-click to make sure this default device is selected
To test the sound, right-click and select Test
No Sound on Mac
Step 1: Select the grey gear in your taskbar or click the apple in the top-left corner and select System Preferences
Step 2: Select Sound
Step 1: Adjust the Volume Output slider
Step 2: Make sure the blue checkmark box next to Mute is not selected
